The news has come, our flights are booked (including my commercial flight out of Georgia), and I am growing more and more tired as the date approaches. When I describe the plans to people out loud, I find them becoming more permanent. The consensus is, “that sounds like hell”. And it really does. It is times in this that I remember why I don’t like thinking about plans until the day is there - I really just do NOT want to think about this one.
(Click here for the last post regarding our changed travel itinerary)
But, since not thinking about this all is unacceptable - the one thing that I am mulling over in my mind is, what will I be keeping with me for three weeks?
I am allowed more baggage (physical…not emotional lol. I save that baggage for you guys) than the average passenger, because of our orders. However, with two animals and the inability to grow a second pair of hands - three week life inventory is necessary.
Is makeup is truly needed?
The answer to that is no.
So, that will have to meet me in Bahrain.
Is a bed needed?
So, a blow up mattress will be shipped to Will after I am done sleeping on it and I’ll borrow bedding.
.. you know, that sort of self-conversation.
What I know is that I do not want to live without the following, for three weeks:
- a razor (Though, Will won’t be there...so maybe I shouldn’t care lol)
- body soap
- face wash
- toothbrush and toothpaste
- a portable charger
- cell phone
- clothing and one pair of shoes (three of everything and washer pods. Laundry will be done on the regular)
- motion sickness medicine (yep)
- tums (I am a heartburn monster)
- my blanket scarf
- a travel neck pillow
- large headphones (I need my ears covered on flights. I’m weird, yes.)
- journal and pen
- two tablets
You may be asking, ‘where does your camera go?!’. It’s going on a bag with my husband. Believe me, I’m panicking - but, it’s such an (almost) 8 lb beast...I just don’t have room.
Since I’ve had so much time to think, I try to imagine the things that I will do on a flight that doesn’t include entertainment or power in the seats. I rarely sleep on flights, so this may be hard. If I do not get a snooze, my laptop on power saver will last 10 hours and I can write as much as I would like. That means, no photo editing. But, writing will be my primary source of sanity if/when I am getting far too overwhelmed- yes, it helps believe it or not.
Other than that, I am holding out in my re-reading the Harry Potter series, will have a paper and pen, and three separate means of video entertainment that should carry a few movies and all can be powered by a portable charger. Keeping my devices on the lowest brightness setting, I may not be able to see much...but, will definitely get the most bang for my buck!
This is where I almost hope that I will have longer layovers, that way I can power each item up and get ready for another leg.
Right now, my flights will be 1.5, 8, 3, 2, and 4 hours - with layovers between all (again, not sure how long because they’re AMC flights). But, I have to sit and be thankful that my fur children will have a great chance of stretching during them. I guess the cat will be wearing his little harness and going on a leash?
That’s it for now.
I totally appreciate the messages and love I received after my last post - you have no clue HOW MUCH your thoughts are keeping me sane!
